Parrish Church of Saints Quirico e Paolo

G.B. Schellino, 1859-1886

Neoclassical Greek cross church, 46 meters long and 23 meters wide, enriched by an internal peristyle formed by 24 columns, surmounted by a huge dome . It is undoubtedly the most impressive work made by the architect Schellino, who always showed its generosity not only working for free, but – as says the plaque at the bottom of the church– also by contributing to the expenses of the works. Inside several fine works including canvases from the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, some wooden statues by Brilla and a “Via Crucis” by Gaetano Previati.
In 1883, the fine organ built by Vittino brothers of Centallo had been inaugurated.
In 1885, a few years after its construction, a violent storm broke the round copper dome, which was immediately restored and completed between 1886 and 1887.
In 1960, thanks to the support thanks to the support of the citizens of Dogliani and thanks to the interest of President Luigi Einaudi, the roof of the dome was completely replaced.
In the past decades, the apse, the side walls and columns by the painter Giovanni Albesiano of Dogliani have been decorated.
